Is chiropractic treatment safe?

How is a chiropractic adjustment performed?
Chiropractic adjustment or manipulation is a manual procedure that utilises highly refined skills. The chiropractor typically uses their hands, or an instrument, to gently manipulate the joints of the body, more specifically the spine, to restore or enhance joint function. This helps resolve joint inflammation and reduce pain. Chiropractic manipulation is a highly controlled procedure that rarely causes discomfort. The chiropractor adapts the procedure to meet the specific needs of each patient, who often note positive changes in their symptoms immediately following treatment.
Is chiropractic treatment ongoing?
A chiropractor may provide acute, repeat and/or preventative care sometimes making a certain number of visits necessary. Your chiropractor will tell you the extent of treatment recommended, and for how long you can expect it to last.
Are all patients adjusted in the same way?
No. Each patient's care is unique and customized to meet their specific conditions and needs. Treatment plans are also based on your pain. Numerous spinal adjustment types and techniques depend on the patient's medical history, age, size, and weight.
How long is a chiropractic session?
Usually, our sessions last between 40-45 minutes.
What can I expect at my first chiropractic visit?
The chiropractor will start by asking about your medical history and why you have come to them. This will be followed by a physical examination. Imaging or lab tests may be required to confirm a diagnosis, after which the chiropractor will reach a diagnosis and advise whether chiropractic treatment can help. As part of this process, the chiropractor will explain your condition and recommend a treatment plan. At Back on the Move/BeRehab, the first session usually includes consultation and relevant treatment.
What is the cracking sound heard during a chiropractic adjustment?
Adjustment (or manipulation) of a joint may result in the release of a gas bubble in the joints, which makes a popping sound. The same thing occurs when you “crack” your knuckles. The noise is caused by the change of pressure within the joint, which results in gas bubbles being release.
Should I see a chiropractor if I am pregnant?
It is safe to see a chiropractor during pregnancy. Being pregnant can cause new and different aches and pains in your joints and muscles, and seeing a chiropractor can help soothe these, especially if you had back pain prior to becoming pregnant. Not only is it safe to go to a chiropractor during pregnancy, but seeing a chiro after delivery is also safe. The biomechanics of your pelvis change during childbirth, which can cause discomfort afterwards when you’re walking, nursing or sleeping. There are many benefits to postnatal care from a chiropractor, including helping with pelvic misalignment.
Do chiropractors only treat patients using adjustments?
Although chiropractors are most well-known for performing adjustments, they also use a combination of other modalities to cater to each patient’s individual need. These modalities may include deep tissue massage, dry needling, dry cupping, traction, stretching, exercise therapy and taping.
What age-groups can benefit from chiropractic?
