How often should I have a Thai massage?
For maximum benefit, you should have Thai massages regularly, ideally weekly or bi-weekly, depending on what your body needs. Some people may reduce the frequency to monthly. Your therapist will generally suggest a treatment plan that may cover several sessions. Please note that Thai massage is not recommended for people with certain medical conditions such as osteoporosis, or following recent surgery. Always check with your Thai massage therapist before booking an appointment, if you have questions about the suitability of this method for you.
Is it safe to have a Thai message while I am pregnant?
It is safe to have a Thai massage during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, as long as high-risk areas are avoided. Massage of the neck, shoulders and feet can be especially beneficial for pregnant women. We offer special pre-natal massage, but if you have a specific condition for which you would prefer a Thai massage, this can be done too, within appropriate safety parameters.
How long does a Thai massage session last?
A typical Thai massage session usually lasts between 30 and 90 minutes, depending on the treatment required. An hour is considered the standard for a full body massage; however, some therapists may offer shorter or longer sessions depending on the area to be treated. Your first appointment will take slightly longer, as your masseur will take a medical history and discuss any injury, pain or stress-related issues with you in detail.
Does a Thai massage hurt?
Thai massage can sometimes be intense; stretches may cause a degree of discomfort, and the therapist uses deep pressure. However, it should not be extremely painful, other than ‘in the moment’, so it's important that you give regular feedback to your therapist who can adjust the pressure being applied. You may feel some soreness after the massage, and this can be alleviated by applying either ice or a heat pack. Your therapist will advise you on this.
